Using copper items is the most natural way to care for them.
There is nothing special to do to care for copper items, but to ensure that you can enjoy them for a long time, please note the following:
Daily Care
The cause of the metallic smell is the oils from your hands and mouth. By thoroughly washing with detergent, you can prevent the odor from copperware. Using a dishwasher is also effective in preventing odors.
-
1. Apply detergent to remove oils (which are the cause of metallic odors).
-
2. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
-
3. Wipe off moisture well and let the item dry completely.
Occasional Care
-
Method 1: Restore Shine
Gently scrub with damp baking soda, rinse with lukewarm water, and then thoroughly dry the item.
-
Method 2: Remove Black Stains (like tea stains)
Soak the item in an oxygen-based bleach solution to neutralize the oxidized copper and remove black stains and other dirt.
-
Method 3: Maintain the surface's aging while still giving it a glossy shine
Lightly heat the copper on a stove or similar and melt the beeswax, apply it, then wipe it off and polish the copper surface.
-
Method 4: Growing copper again from scratch
By polishing the surface with commercially available polishing powders like Pikal, you can reset the copperware back to its 'original' state.
