The history of Tazen began when Tanaka Zenzo, a coppersmith whose skills were recognized by Date Masamune, was invited from what is now Osaka to Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, in 1596. Initially, the focus was on creating decorations for shrines and temples, but as time went on, they began to make copper pots, such as kettles and pots, which were closely related to the daily lives of ordinary people.
The "Sendai-doko (Sendai Copper Pots)" are a series of copper pots that were once beloved by people, which Tazen has recreated in a contemporary style.
Each copper pot is made by hand by Tazen's copper artisans, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Please enjoy the fusion of traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation and the sensibilities of modern artisans in the comfort of your own home or restaurant.

Sendai-doko Seri Nabe
Seri Nabe of AkaganeDate Copper Moon Paper Knife
The statue of Date Masamune on horseback is a beloved symbol of Sendai. It was tilted and missing due to the magnitude 6+ earthquake that occurred on 16 March 2022, but after restoration work in Tokyo, it will return to Sendai, the city of trees.
This time we produced a crescent-shaped copper letter opener as a collaborative product with a special feature carried out by the Kahoku Shimpo newspaper.
Sake and Copperware Set Made by a Sendai Sake Brewery and Coppersmith
Copper craftsman Tanaka Zen creates copper sake cups using the "herashibori (spatula drawing)" technique and the new "flame dyeing" finish, while Sendai master brewer Mori Tokuhide uses a new technique called "Hayakumi-fukurotsuri (early draw bag hanging)", which is every brewer's dream. This already top-notch sake tastes even better when drunk from a copper sake vessel. This special set, limited to 200 pieces, combines Moritami / Junmai Daiginjo Hayakumi Fukuro Tsuri with two types of sake cups, So and En-Sen of Sendai-doko.
