Handling Precautions

・Copper is a soft metal. To prevent deformation or damage, do not rub it with sharp objects, bend it or apply excessive force.

Do not leave drinks or cooked food in copperware for long periods as this can cause verdigris (copper rust) to form. Although verdigris is harmless to the human body, it may affect the taste or appearance of the food.

・Copper has a very high thermal conductivity, making hot objects feel hotter and cold objects feel colder. Be careful not to get burned.

・If oils from fingers or lips or salts remain on the copper and cause oxidation, it may develop a metallic odour or verdigris. After use, wash with a soft sponge and liquid neutral detergent, rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove oils and dry completely before storing. Scrubbing with baking soda will effectively remove verdigris and oils, neutralising the surface and helping to maintain its shine.

If you have or suspect you have a metal allergy, please do not use copperware.

・Over time, tinned surfaces can darken and copper surfaces can gradually change colour and texture. This natural aging process has been appreciated since antiquity as the development of a unique "scenery".

Please enjoy the characteristic changes of copperware as it matures with age.

  • Tin-plated (inside)

Many Sendai copper pots have a tin-plated interior. Coating with tin helps prevent the formation of verdigris. If the tin becomes thin with use, it can be re-plated.

  • Handle string

The handle of the Sendai Copper Pot is also made of copper. It is wrapped with braided cord to prevent it from getting hot during use. The way the cord is tied is original to Sendai Copper Pot. It is sturdy and has a beautiful finish.

If it does come loose, we will perform maintenance immediately.
